What kind of film should I use for fashion photography?

Color plays a big role in fashion photography. This is why Color Negative film would be a good choice, to beautifully capture colors under any lighting conditions and make your pictures pop! Color Negative film also helps with making your subjects stand out from the background, which is an impactful factor in fashion photography. However, your choice of film will ultimately depend on several elements like your location, light sources, preferred look, and more.

When shooting with film, it’s important to consider the ISO since it is a fixed variable and may require modifications to your camera settings and your overall setup. ISO 400 is a reliable choice and ISO 800 works great for high-speed scenes, but in the end it depends on what you’re trying to achieve. Their conventional uses should guide you, not restrict you!

Though color film is the most straightforward choice for fashion photography, black & white is also a common choice in the industry. It is mostly used for capturing monochromatic outfits, high fashion or street fashion. This is because black & white film has amazing contrast that highlights shapes and silhouettes in a sophisticated and timeless way.
