How do I attach a flash to my film camera?

Depending on the camera, you can attach a flash with either a hot shoe, a flash bracket, or a side attachment. The hot shoe is the most common way to attach a flash. It is a mount, usually found on top of the camera, that allows electronic signals to pass between the camera and the flash. A flash bracket is similar to the hot shoe but has no electronics attached, rather you would need a PC sync cable that can attach to the X sync button found on the side of your camera. This allows your flash to be in sync with your camera’s shutter speed. Lastly, for some cameras (mostly point-and-shoots) there are external flashes that can be attached to the side of the camera.
