For this very special exhibition, since the photographer's passing in 2021, the Estate of Mick Rock gave artist Shillito full access to Rock’s most famous and legendary photographs of 70s and 80s rock music icons including David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Debbie Harry, Lou Reed and Nico, Kate Moss, Diana Ross, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Iggy Pop, and Dolly Parton - resulting in original screen-printed and hand embellished prints collection created by the British artist.

Hannah Shillito is an emerging and groundbreaking British contemporary artist who has attracted instant industry and celebrity recognition as well as avid art collectors from around the globe. Her aesthetic orbits around tongue in cheek brightly hued pop art screenprints of her muses including including David Bowie, Blondie, Cher and Prince. Her works are defined by maximalism and the joy of colour. Attention-grabbing, honest and playful, Shillito’s art emanates pleasure and positivity through her artworks.

Mick Rock was often dubbed “The Man Who Shot The Seventies,” but more accurately, he was “The Man Who Shot The Last Five Decades of Rock Music, Personalities and Culture.” Throughout his legendary career, it was Mick’s unique access to his subjects which allowed him to capture not only the iconic, but the intimate and highly personal essence of each one. His photographs both captured and enhanced the quiet genius of Syd Barrett, the beginnings of stardom for Queen, much of the life span of Ziggy Stardust, the rawness of Iggy Pop, and the musical transformation of Lou Reed.

During this period, Mick also photographed such artists and musicians as Thin Lizzy, Ozzy Osborne, Bob Marley, and Peter Gabriel. He also produced and directed the early classic David Bowie music videos. In 1974, he moved to New York City and began photographing his edgy, punky NY subjects - the musical darlings of the times such as Debbie Harry, Carly Simon, the Ramones, the Talking Heads, Motley Crue, to name just a very few - with hot backgrounds, one flash, and a lushness not normally associated with rock ‘n’ roll. He never stopped shooting. Other notable subjects included Lenny Kravitz, Michael Stipe, Kate Moss, Snoop Dog, Miley Cyrus.

Ultimately, Mick shot over 100 album covers and published 20 books of his work. His photographs have graced covers of magazines and publications and were featured in major exhibitions all over the world. He is also in the permanent collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London as well as in New York’s Brooklyn Museum. Mick Rock is no longer behind the camera, and that is our loss, but the magic and power of his photographs will live on and on.
