After getting virtually blank results from an expired slide film, persistence and curiosity urged João Oliveira (@shoao) to recover the images taken in Patagonia with the help of AI. We asked him about his process, the memorable photos, and his views on the use of AI in film photography.
I used a projector for lighting the model's face, and I illuminated the background with a Balcar studio light. The first image in the series is a double exposure. The first exposure was taken with the background light on, and the second one without it, resulting in a single silhouette in the image. Between exposures, I slightly moved the camera and asked the model to stay as still as possible. I added another shot to the series taken with a single exposure so that the viewer can deduce what is happening in the image.
And of course, almost always when you manage to capture a pleasing double exposure, there's a touch of luck involved.🥁

For the first layer I photographed forests, trees, ponds, and a steel demolition plant.
The second layer was of seagulls, but the pictures did not overlap well. I had a frame shift.
Trial and error! I realized how difficult it was to use the LOMO LC-A+.
I would like to try again!
