Jack Shainman Gallery is currently presenting Born Black, an exhibition of Gordon Parks’s photographs – curated in collaboration with The Gordon Parks Foundation. This presentation is inspired by the 1971 book Gordon Parks: Born Black, A Personal Report on the Decade of Black Revolt 1960-1970, which brought together a collection of essays and photographs by Parks that were originally created for Life magazine. Translating the essential themes of the text into an exhibition, Jack Shainman explains, “We seek to commemorate Parks’s ground-breaking 1971 anthology, and the enduring impact of his photographs and writing today. Daníel Perez Eðvarðsson welcomes guests to discuss his exhibition, The Man Who Slept Like a Flamenco Dancer, on Saturday in Skotið at the Reykjavík Museum of Photography. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome. Please note that the talk will be in Icelandic. On display are photographs from Andalusia, Spain, which the artist took during the first winter he was living in Spain between 2021-2022. Perez is half-Spanish, raised in Iceland. Parallel to the black and white prints from Spain, color photographs from the annual Þjóðhátíð festival in Iceland’s Westman Islands are shown, taken in the summer of 2023. Thus, the exhibition addresses festival culture, of Catholics on the one hand and of Icelanders on the other.

Bunnell Curator of Photography at the Princeton University Art Museum, to discuss Fernandez’s extensive body of work exploring migration, labor, gender, and her Mexican American identity through photography as well as her recent traveling retrospective, Multiple Exposures. Bussard and Fernandez will also look at upcoming projects and discuss the expanding role of an artist, which for Fernandez, includes curatorial projects and creating new opportunities for her community.
