Synesthesia #15 Imagined Album Covers – Pride Edition

1

In this edition of Synesthesia, we take time to highlight a mix of faces and photographers showcasing the beauty and talent of the LGBTQIA+ community. Beyond the photos, we also combine this edition's selections with music by queer artists or songs that have been embraced by the community. From Pride anthem favorites, to sensual R&B slow jamz, to the trailblazing artists that inspire us, here is what we have put together for this month's Synesthesia.

Featured in the past for his use of the Fisheye No.2, @bigfatbambi's photo instantly captures your attention. The photo could instantly be a still from Madonna's Like A Prayer music video or even an outtake from artists such as Lady Gaga or Lana Del Rey. With this, we chose similar artists that could fit the vibe of the photo.

Madonna - Like A Prayer
Lana Del Rey - Say Yes To Heaven
Chappell Roan - My Kink is Karma

Pride is a protest but it is also a celebration of diversity and individuality of the queer community. This portrait depicts the festive and fun celebrations that are about to begin around the world. Looking at this photo we can instantly hear the upbeat and glittery music in the air, which is why we paired it with fun house anthems that will get the celebrations going this June!

Honey Dijon - Work (feat. Dave Giles II, Cor.Ece & Mike Dunn)
Barbara Tucker - Beautiful People (Underground Network Mix)
Divine - Shake It Up

This moving portrait taken by @alekkk shows the importance of photographing queer faces and bodies. Haunting and striking, it reminds us of the album cover of Sky Ferreira's Night Time, My Time. This picture is paired up with three atmospherically lush tunes from strong female artists that will make you feel empowered.

Sky Ferreira - Everything Is Embarrassing (Krystal Klear Remix)
FKA twigs - minds of men
Reneé Rapp - The Wedding Song

Intimate photography is a popular genre in the queer community. In previous decades, (and still in much of the world today) public displays of queer love were banned. So we’re grateful for the photography and other art forms that have been used to preserve and showcase queer love stories. This intimate portrait shows how males can be fragile and soft, which is why it's paired with three LGBTQIA+ artists who are not afraid to be vulnerable through their music.

Orville Peck - Roses Are Falling
Frank Ocean - Comme des Garçons
Jason Dhakal - ur man

This photo reminds us of a common narrative that the LGBTQIA+ community faces; not feeling at home with their body or identity. Not being comfortable looking at the mirror or disliking parts of their body is common and it is a journey that many people go through. Whether through friendships, family, or even through personal perseverance many eventually find a way to be at home within their own skin. These three electronic tracks by queer artists are personal favorites that can help you get through your day.

Oliver Sim - GMT (Wolfgang Tillmans / Marc Krether Remix)
Eris Drew - Trans Love Vibration (Eris Goes to Church)
Sfire - Sfire 1 (feat. Marcela)
